“falin and the red dragon” is a digital piece i created in 2024 using photoshop. upon browsing through an archive of illustrated magazine covers from the twentieth century, "woman feeding a chinese dragon" by artist george wolfe plank from vogue’s February 1923 edition caught my eye, and I was inspired to recreate it with a character from one of my favourite series, dungeon meshi. i had also been heavily inspired by medieval manuscript illuminations during this time, which was another element i incorporated through the border of this piece. this piece was a really fun way for me to explore my interests through combining multiple elements, compositions, and ideas from the things i love in a way that's personal to me and unique to my style. when creating this illustration, it involved a lot of in-depth research into medieval illuminations and the style and colors that were used to create them back in the day, which i combined with a hand-scanned texture to give this piece a rustic quality that fit the vibe. overall, i had a really fun time creating this illustration and got to learn so much about the things that inspired it while exploring my personal art style.
